When exporting templates users should be able to choose "export as XML" or "export as YAML".  This would simplify the process of creating YAML files for use in MiNiFi.   Currently, the downloaded template is placed in a local directory on your machine where you will need to have the minifi-toolkit so you can convert to YAML.  Suggest removing this layer of complexity.
