Accessing Solr code (e.g. tokenizers / filters) from other apps?

Hi, all.

Has anyone ever set things up / figured out a good way to access the Solr filter chain(s) from other Java code?

Specifically - we'd like to tokenize data (search strings, or possibly even Facet values) the same way that Solr does in the filter chains so that we can do some additional pre-search processing (e.g. tokenizing the same way to produce a better Fuzzy Search query) or post-search processing (to find matches within Facet values).
