moving JCS to jakarta?

i think it would be good to make jcs a jakarta project on it's own .. it
doesn't make sense to keep it as a turbine sub project ... maybe we
should try to get a 1.0 release and propose the movement at this time

thoughts?

Either incubator or commons-sandbox would be an appropriate home.
Incubator might actually be preferred to help breathe in new life.

I was actually thinking that one of the reasons JCS hasn't attracted more
developers is that by being under turbine's umbrella, it is automatically
thought of as turbine specific.

I was thinking the jakarta incubator might also be a place for this to live?

+1 commons-sandbox would be the right place IMHO.

Okay, that sounds good. What do you think of using it as the engine in
GlobalCacheService? Does that sound like a good fit? I'm not a real JCS
expert, so I'm looking for some opinions..

it's also used by torque and ojb .. and i'm sure there are others ...
jcs will get more attention as a project on it's own ... which means more
users and developers ... that's why i propose the move ..

How much use does JCS actually get? I looked around and aside from
Hibernate, I couldn't find any projects that use it. Although I see you did
just make a bunch of commits..

If it is a supported/thriving product, should the GlobalCacheService use it
as the actual caching engine? I was thinking of replacing/adding the home
grown one with something else..?
