Apache SOAP and WebLogic 6.0

Has anyone successfully installed the lastest Apache Soap (version 2.1) with Bea WebLogic 6.0? I tried, but I can't seem to generate the DeployedServices.ds file.

Please help.

I have seen something like this when the SOAP servlet (rpcrouter) could not
write to the local hard drive and build a DeployedServices.ds file. That
file should appear in the x:\bea\wlserver6.0 directory after you deploy a
web service.
Is it a permissions thing? The machine that had this problem had a
dramatically chewed up config.xml that could have added to the problem. We
just reinstalled WLS6.0 and the problem went away.

I put soap.jar in the web-inf\lib directory of the webapp hosting all the
services. I also put my service classes in the web-inf\classes directory so
they can be easily found by the rpcrouter.

No. I actually just downloaded and installed version 2.1 first. I don't think it's a conflict; I think there are some settings in web.xml that have to be configured; I am looking to fix that soon.

  Just out of interest... Did you have SOAP 2.0 installed first, then undeploy it using the console and then install 2.1?

  On the two servers I have tried 2.1 on, they have both had 2.0 installed on them first, I wonder if there is a conflict between the two that is causing the problem?

  just thinking out loud.

    Jay, & Dion,
    I think I actually spoke too soon on this. I am still getting the Unable to read DeployedServices.ds error when I use Apache SOAP 2.1 with WebLogic 6.0. However, Bea has an implemetation of Apache Soap on their developers website, developers.bea.com, which works well. I am not quite sure whether this is Apche Soap 2.1 or 2.0.

    Dion, is there anything else, other than what you describe in your instructions, that one needs to do to get the version 2.1 of SOAP working?

      Dion & Collin,

      I am also trying to get SOAP 2.1 to work with Weblogic 6.0, I followed the instructions ata www.almaer.com but i am still getting the following error:

      <20/04/2001 8:23:08> <Info> <HTTP> <[WebAppServletContext(1236342,soap)] rpcrouter: init>
      SOAP Service Manager: Unable to read 'DeployedServices.ds': assuming fresh start

No. I actually just downloaded and installed version 2.1 first. I don't think it's a conflict; I think there are some settings in web.xml that have to be configured; I am looking to fix that soon.

  Colin and Others...

  Well I (when I say I, I mean myself and one of the head guys here) have figured out how to get it to work.

  Firstly, make sure that you have your soap.xml and web.xml updated as outlined in Dion's document.

  Then if you haven't already, move the soap.jar to bea\wlserver6.0\config\mydomain\applications\soap\WEB-INF\lib.

  Restart your server

  Load the weblogic console and go to
   Deployments > Web Applications > soap

  This is where the problem lies. See how there is a tick in the box that says deployed, you would think that that means it had been deployed right? Wrong!
  If you look in the config.xml file you will see no reference to SOAP.

  I don't fully understand the art that is hot deploying web-apps and war files, but something doesn't work as you would think it should.

  What you need to do is:

  uncheck deployed
  click apply
  re check deployed
  click apply

  then restart the server and there you go.

  You should now be able to click on list or deploy in the admin client and have it find the DeployedServices.ds file.

  Hope this helps

  Let me know how you go

  Regards

  Jay

    True. Do you have any idea what the parameter to the rpcrouter servlet that indicates where the DeployedServices.ds file is located is called? I could set this up in web.xml.

      Colin, Dion and others

      As far as I am aware, this BEA implementation is v2.0 and does not support SSL (which I require).

      I also have had no problem using the BEA v2.0 implementation with both WL 5.1 & WL 6.

      I think part of this is because the BEA implementation contains the WAR the basically sets it all up for you.

      Going to v2.1 requires manually setting up SOAP using soap.jar and pointing to the DeployedServices.ds file etc... which is what is giving us grief I assume.

True. Do you have any idea what the parameter to the rpcrouter servlet that indicates where the DeployedServices.ds file is located is called? I could set this up in web.xml.

RE: Apache SOAP and WebLogic 6.0

Hope this helps:

The issues stems from a coding assumption in the
getFileFromNameAndContext() of ServerHTTPUtils. The assumption is that
the web application will not be deployed as a war file. As such, if the
location to the DeployedServices.ds file is not an absolute file it then
tries to prefix the location of the context.getRealPath() from the
servlet API which will return null if it is deployed as a WAR into the
app server. This is why it is working for those folks who have
specified an absolute path to the DeployedServices.ds file

A download of the nightly builds from 2001-04-17 (could be earlier but
that was the one I started from) has already fixed this problem.

Has anyone successfully installed the lastest Apache Soap (version 2.1)
with Bea WebLogic 6.0? I tried, but I can't seem to generate the
DeployedServices.ds file.

Please help.

Morning All,
Just an FYI, I'm using Silverstream 3.7.1 and have the exact same issue
with v2.1. Hardcoding an absolute path for the Deployed Services file,
fixs the immediate issue. I wanted to continue on with learning other
stuff, so I've not dug into the root cause yet.

I think part of this is because the BEA implementation contains the WAR

Going to v2.1 requires manually setting up SOAP using soap.jar and
pointing to the DeployedServices.ds file etc... which is what is giving

Jay, & Dion,
I think I actually spoke too soon on this. I am still getting the Unable
to read DeployedServices.ds error when I use Apache SOAP 2.1 with
WebLogic 6.0. However, Bea has an implemetation of Apache Soap on their
developers website, developers.bea.com, which works well. I am not quite
sure whether this is Apche Soap 2.1 or 2.0.

Dion, is there anything else, other than what you describe in your
instructions, that one needs to do to get the version 2.1 of SOAP
working?

Just out of interest... Did you have SOAP 2.0 installed first, then undeploy
it using the console and then install 2.1?

On the two servers I have tried 2.1 on, they have both had 2.0 installed on
them first, I wonder if there is a conflict between the two that is causing
the problem?

just thinking out loud.

SOAP headers: newbie question

Posted by Mangala Gowri Nanda <ma...@yahoo.com>.
Could someone please tell me how to set a transaction id (string) in
the SOAP header from the client and how to receive it at the server end
?

I tried the following at the client end:

Header header = new Header();
Vector hparams = new Vector ();
hparams.addElement(new Parameter("TransId", String.class, "123",null)
);
header.setHeaderEntries ( hparams );
call.setHeader ( header );

and I get the following error when I try to run the client:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassCastException:
org.apache.soap.rpc.Parameter
        at org.apache.soap.Header.marshall(Header.java:134)
        at org.apache.soap.Envelope.marshall(Envelope.java:189)
        at
org.apache.soap.transport.http.SOAPHTTPConnection.send(SOAPHTTPConnection.java:206)
        at org.apache.soap.rpc.Call.invoke(Call.java:203)
        at samples.addressbook.GetAddress.main(GetAddress.java:167)

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

gowri

Validating inside the deployed...

... object. I'm receiving a Document object on my SOAP app and I'm trying
to validated it with an external DTD. I'm kind of new to xerces so I'm not
sure how to go about validating the Document with an external dtd

This is what I've tried so far. I was not successful.

/** This is the method the client executes on my server **/
public Element request(Document root){
      OutputFormat    format  = new OutputFormat( root );
      XMLSerializer    serial = new XMLSerializer( format );
      serial.asDOMSerializer();
      serial.serialize( root.getDocumentElement() );

      DOMParser parser = new DOMParser();
     /** THIS IS THE DTD I WANT TO VALIDATE THE Document against **/
      parser.parse("http://localhost:8080/examples/MyDTD.dtd");
      parser.setFeature( "http://xml.org/sax/features/validation", true );
      parser.setFeature( "http://apache.org/xml/features/validation/schema",
true );
}

I'm not sure what to do after that, what am I missing? I know the DOMParser
should be doing something with the Document too, but I really have no idea
what to do next, or what I'm doing wrong.

Your help is very much appreciated.
