Forward Mailet + spamhaus RBL

Hello Geniuses,
I an back wid a really petty issue. The Forward mailet
is not working for me. I have checked the logs a
hundred times.
I m using the SMTP service only wid all other services

disabled.

Plus, I m using sbl.spamhaus.org real-time black lists
and every incoming mail is going to spam. Any good
reasons ?

Use dig and you'll see that spamhaus replies to such inquiries with:

 ;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 1, ADDITIONAL: 0

However, if you use a proper DNS RBL query, e.g.,

 $  host 194.208.14.24.sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org
 194.208.14.24.sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org has address 127.0.0.4

you'll get a valid reply.

> not sure how james behaves with the lack of response

James should only be accepting a positive response. We can do more testing
related to error conditions, but the onMatcherException attribute can tell
James what to do if there is some unexpected exception thrown.

In future versions of James, I hope that we will introduce queueing within
the spooler so that operations such as DNS lookups that fail can be
scheduled by the spooler for retrying.

i have been seeing this a LOT lately:

$ host sbl.spamhaus.org
$

not sure how james behaves with the lack of response (as in the rbl
'doesn't exist'), but i am starting to think that the rbls are becoming
victims of their own success ;o)

Well, you did as for it to be forwarded. That is what Forwarding means.
You did not ask for a copy to be forwarded. In James 2.1.3, you could
include:

  <passThrough>true</passThrough>

and the Forward mailet would allow the original message to continue in the
pipeline.

You could turn on DEBUG for the spooler to see the timestamps at every stage
through the pipeline.

Forwarding on James 2.1.3 wid Win2k professional using
MS-Outlook XP.
======================================================

Noel,

The problem is that I m not getting the original
message delivered. Shouldnt I get both the message
i.e. one to the REAL intended recipient and the other
to the FORWARDED recipient ??
In my case, the original message vanishes off. It only
gets delivered to the FORWARDED recipient and NOT to
the REAL intended recipient.
Also, the message gets delivered in as much time as
between 40 - 80 seconds. Outlook sends it normally
quick; but JAMES is taking too much time to forward it
to another recipient.

Lahu

It seems to be working just fine:

not the message.

Are you sure it is from the DNS RBL? Turn on debug for the spool manager to
see which matcher is causing the issue.
