[jira] [Created] (AMBARI-11040) Clients should be installed on all
nodes by default
Nick Dimiduk created AMBARI-11040:
-------------------------------------
Summary: Clients should be installed on all nodes by default
Key: AMBARI-11040
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/AMBARI-11040
Project: Ambari
Issue Type: Bug
Reporter: Nick Dimiduk
I recently had the confusing experience of my MR job only running in local mode. Listing HDFS worked fine and so did the HBase shell. I tried different things to resolve (environment variables, classpaths, &c). Eventually I realized that the mapreduce configs were not correct -- what was in stalled was the default "empty" config. This was extra confusing because HDFS and HBase were configured correctly. It seemed that the MR client had not been installed on this host.
I think all clients should be installed on all hosts by default. Administrators who want to lock down "server" nodes vs. "edge" nodes can do so via customization. This is a pretty poor experience, a wide usability gap.
