Apache Spark reassigned SPARK-19505:
------------------------------------

    Assignee: Apache Spark

> AttributeError on Exception.message in Python3; hides true exceptions in cloudpickle.py and broadcast.py
> --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
>
> Key: SPARK-19505
> URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SPARK-19505
> Project: Spark
> Issue Type: Bug
> Components: PySpark
> Affects Versions: 2.1.0
> Environment: macOS Sierra 10.12.3
> Spark 2.1.0, installed via Homebrew
> Reporter: David Gingrich
> Assignee: Apache Spark
> Priority: Minor
>
> cloudpickle.py and broadcast.py both catch Exceptions then look at the 'message' field. The message field doesn't exist in Python 3 so it rethrows and the original exception is lost.
