Tapestry CMS
I'm starting to develop a CMS in Tapestry.
I have some doubts whether to start with T4 or T3. One of the reasons is
that I'm using MyEclipse/Spindle for development and these tools
currently don't support T4 yet.
I have been reading about T4 support for portlets but I'm afraid of not
being able to find help since there are neither examples nor tutorials
for it yet.
The Architecture for the CMS will look like somewhat like this:
Hibernate3
Tapestry
Spring (haven't decided yet)
The main reason why I'm using tapestry for this project is because there
is a whole team of html/css designers in charge of the design and people
are used to think about its development in components which makes
Tapestry a perfect fit for the project.
I would appreciate any feedback.
(I apologize if my English is not clear enough, still learning :))

It will be standalone, not a portlet, I have tried jboss portal 2.0,
liferay, pluto, etc... and didn't like neither. The fact that the
portlet API
helps you integrate different applications in the same portal is great
but I don't need it to write a CMS based on news, reviews, etc...
It will take very long to implement the specification and make it work
with tapestry portlets from scratch, and even though I'd like this
project to be open source, right now I'm developing it for a client. So
I don't have much time to implement specifications.

Hi,
Geoff Longman wrote in September, that he tries to release a Spindle for
Tapestry 4 "anywhere near the final Release of Tapestry 4". I had to make the
same decission like you 2 weeks ago and chose T4. Not too comfortable by now,
but you can do everything manually without breaking your fingers.

If you don't afraid of permanent problems with documentions ( it is
still in beta ) then I recomented
for you to use T4. It is build on Hivemind which is DI engine with some
'bells & whistles', so using
Spring may be not nessesary. do you planning to write CMS as a portlet
or as standalone system?
I have some interest in CMS, so maybe you write more about your project ?

I'm developing a very large cms in tapestry using tapestry 4, hibernate,
and spring. I don't use spindle but have gotten by fine without it.
There is a book that supports T4. I haven't used portlets so I can't
help you on that. But tapestry rocks and I havent had any problems
developing a cms in T4.

ITemplateSourceDelegate implementation example

Is there a place where I can see an example implementation of
ITemplateSourceDelegate?
I want to provide template replacement in my app and I have heard that
this is the best solution.

Re: Tapestry CMS

Have you considered integrating http://www.fckeditor.net/ or
http://tinymce.moxiecode.com/. The former already supports Java, but
only JSP. An experienced Tapestry component writer could make the editor
component in a week or two I guess. I just started to learn Tapestry,
but I decided to make a web application which will include such editor
so that users will be able to change or add some of the contents.
Guidance appreciated,
Borut

Re: Tapestry CMS
Posted by Raul Raja Martinez <do...@estudiowebs.com>.
None of those CMS support Tapestry as a Template System.
In the past I have integrated many CMS using Postnuke, PHPNuke, Mambo
even oscommerce for online stores.
My team is in Spain and I'm in the US, None of the designers in my team
now what a variable is. I don't have any other choice than using
Tapestry because it allows me totally separate Design from logic.
Many of the big CMS that would work with this project use technologies
such as XSLT for the Template Engine or many XML descriptors.
Most designers don't know these technologies. Tapestry is the perfect
fit to work with designers with HTML-Photoshop skills. And my experience
is that everytime that I introduce some technology that they're not
familiar with, I end up doing their Job.

PS: If this is a typical day on planet earth, humans will add fifteen million tons of carbon to the atmosphere, destroy 115 square miles of tropical rainforest, create seventy-two miles of desert, eliminate between forty to one hundred species, erode seventy-one million tons of topsoil, add 2,700 tons of CFCs to the stratosphere, and increase their population by 263,000

Wow... very interesting solution. This is a portal - based system, so it
should be viable to insert Tapestry portlets in it, right ?

Re: Tapestry CMS

Could you please elaborate a bit on reasons to develop
yout CMS?
It seems like thre is a bunch of open source CMS like
http://www.alfresco.org/index.html
http://www.opencms.org/opencms/en/
http://www.exoplatform.com/portal/faces/public/exo
and others
Why another system, just curious...
