[VOTE] Airflow Providers, release preparation date 2026-01-13
Hey all,
I have just cut the new wave Airflow Providers packages with release
preparation date 2026-01-13. This email is calling a vote on the
release, which will last for 72 hours - which means that it will end on
2026-01-17 02:00 UTC UTC and until 3 binding +1 votes have been received.
Consider this my (binding) +1.
As of the year break all 97 active providers are released to at least
update the NOTICE. Most providers have bug fixes or small enhancements.
Major exception is Edge3 which has a major release 3.0.0 (Wohoo!).
Airflow Providers are available at:
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/airflow/providers/2026-01-13
* apache-airflow-providers-2026-01-13-source.tar.gz* is the full
source tarball of airflow repo - snapshot taken at the moment of
provider's release.
* apache-airflow-providers-<PROVIDER>-*.tar.gz* are the convenience
python "sdist" distributions that we publish in PyPI
* apache_airflow_providers_<PROVIDER>-*.whl are the convenience Python
"wheel" distributions that we publish in PyPI.
The test procedure for PMC members is described in
https://github.com/apache/airflow/blob/main/dev/README_RELEASE_PROVIDERS.md#verify-the-release-candidate-by-pmc-members
The test procedure for and Contributors who would like to test this RC
is described in:
https://github.com/apache/airflow/blob/main/dev/README_RELEASE_PROVIDERS.md#verify-the-release-candidate-by-contributors
Public keys are available at:
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/release/airflow/KEYS
Please vote accordingly:
[ ] +1 approve
[ ] +0 no opinion
[ ] -1 disapprove with the reason
Only votes from PMC members are binding, but members of the community
are encouraged to test the release and vote with "(non-binding)".
Please note that the version number excludes the 'rcX' string. This will
allow us to rename the artifact without modifying the artifact checksums
when we actually release it.
The status of testing the providers by the community is kept here:
https://github.com/apache/airflow/issues/60496
The issue is also the easiest way to see important PRs included in the
RC candidates. Detailed changelog for the providers will be published in
the documentation after the
RC candidates are released.

Installed the RC with breeze and ran a few of my example dags in general,

I had my +1 already but wanted to share that I used the providers wave
(mainly Fab+Standard+Edge) and made an endurance run with the new
scaling optimized Edge Worker. Ran long running tasks for 20 hours and
in total 10k tests on my laptop with two edge workers on Airflow 3.1.6
via Breeze and all looks good!

+ 1 (binding). Checked:
* SVN
* installation in Docker
* reproducibility
* checksums
* signatures
* licences
Also:
Checked all dependency changes that were implemented in providers for
sqlalchemy optional dependencies. Deltalake limit changes were dev-only
without impact on wheels.
Checked (with Copilot /Claude Sonnet :) ) that all NOTICE files in all the
packages contain correct year:
● Perfect! All packages have been extracted and verified. Here's the
summary:
✅ All 202 NOTICE files contain "2026"
The NOTICE files in all extracted packages correctly include the
copyright year 2026 in the format:
Copyright 2016-2026 The Apache Software Foundation
Every package in the dist directory has been verified successfully.
I found a small issue in PMC verification process, where we skipped the
source tarball in reproducibility check (!) instead of checking it - fix in
https://github.com/apache/airflow/pull/60525

Re: [VOTE] Airflow Providers, release preparation date 2026-01-13
Posted by Jens Scheffler <js...@apache.org>.
THanks for raising this - on top after discussing on Slack I noticed
that Google Provider the wrong version number was produced as well as
the Release Notes are not good.
With these 3 problems/open points I'd skip releasing the provider and
will cut a RC2 after the release of the rest.

Re: [VOTE] Airflow Providers, release preparation date 2026-01-13
Posted by Shahar Epstein <sh...@apache.org>.
I'd like to exclude (-1) the Google provider from the upcoming release, so
we could merge PR #60433 first.
I want to remove a flag that I had introduced to control idempotency of a
Delete operator. Following the recent discussion
<https://lists.apache.org/thread/1po7czthxx3cn9grbo5spv87nh939g3s>, I've
had a change of heart and would prefer to avoid controlling intended
behavior via a flag.
Merging this PR after the release would cause an unnecessary breaking
change.
