   @mccheah, thanks for working on this. It's looking close, but I have doubts about adding `TableOperations#io(TableMetadata)`. I'd rather add `FileIO#updateMetadata(TableMetadata)` if you think it is necessary to have the behavior that requires `io(TableMetadata)`.
   
   Otherwise, I think this is about ready to get in.
