Actually, I've used catastrophic recovery in the absence of all log
files to successfully restore a database.  Were I you, I'd make a
backup copy of my repository (cp -a) and go for the catastrophic
recovery.  I mean, as long as you have a backup of the repos, it can't
get any worse, right?
