It make sense for the roadmap, may be it could be a dedicated page on

Re: Board Report Time

Posted by Bruce Snyder <br...@gmail.com>.
Agreed, a clear roadmap must be defined. We should create a new wiki page
for an overall ActiveMQ project roadmap that includes info for all the
ActiveMQ components (ActiveMQ, ActiveMQ Artemis, ActiveMQ NMS and ActiveMQ
CMS). There is already an ActiveMQ Artemis Roadmap wiki page, is this info
still relevant/usable (
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/ACTIVEMQ/ActiveMQ+Artemis+Roadmap
)?

We need to work openly via the dev@activemq list on this roadmap page so
that it is defined in the open, is unambiguous and includes the entire
ActiveMQ community. It's very important that we hear from users of each
component because these folks have various ActiveMQ components deployed in
production and we need to know what is important to them instead of
speaking for them.

As part of the roadmap discussion, we must also decide if one of the goals
for Artemis is still to be a drop-in replacement for ActiveMQ. I know that
at one time this was the goal, i.e., allow current ActiveMQ users to drop
in Artemis and have everything just continue to work. Is there still value
in this goal?

Re: Board Report Time

Like wise in a roadmap for our project we need to be also clear on the direction for Artemis.

We definitely dont want to be flip flopping. We had spelt out a roadmap last year.

The project already did one big flip flop with apollo. It erodes all end users trust, and they have no clear direction what they should do.

So i would like to see the total vision and roadmap in any proposal if a new roadmap is being presented for the project. So users dont get mixed messages

Re: Board Report Time

Posted by Jonathan Gallimore <jo...@gmail.com>.
Can I suggest calling out what gaps there might be in the roadmap where
people can dig in and help? I don't know what level of commitment the
project is looking for, but I'd like to get involved, and pointers to
things that need doing so folks can sign up to them could be helpful. I'd
state an interest in JMS 2.0 (we currently have a bridge in TomEE to do
some of that with ActiveMQ 5), but I'd be happy to look at other areas as
well.

Re: Board Report Time

Posted by mi...@me.com.INVALID.
Before any votes. I think it needs a little more discussion to see where the tide is going. You need to engage people in that discussion.

Likewise i think a little more than just a line or two is needed for a proposal, need to be clear who is committing to what and thoughts about ensuring clients in cms nms and jms all updated and commitment there.

There is no use in a roadmap with no one committing to the work both client and broker side, else its just becomes hot air.

Re: Board Report Time

There was almost no discussion on the proposals for 5.x. Almost no one
responded and there was no consensus so definitely a -1 from me to include
anything about JMS 2.0, cloud features or any other features like that for
5.x on the board report until it is discussed and the community has a
consensus.

I don’t think the community reached a consensus in order to include on the
report.

If you want to mention it on the report mention the discussion didn’t reach
a consensus yet.

Re: Board Report Time

Posted by Jean-Baptiste Onofré <jb...@nanthrax.net>.
Hi Bruce,

I would like to contribute with the two e-mails sent about ActiveMQ:

- 5.15.10 & 5.16.0 releases preparation
- Roadmap proposal (JMS 2.0, JDK 11 support, ...)
- Cloud friendly features

Unfortunately I don't have the permission to edit the wiki page.

Can you grant permission to my user ?

Thanks,
Regards
JB

This is a reminder that your contributions to the Board report are urgently
needed this week!

The report is due in two days and currently there have been zero
contributions. Please take a few minutes to report on project activity
here:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=120728511

Thank you!

Bruce
