[PR] HBASE-30461 AssignRegionHandler aborts the RegionServer when a requested stop races a region open [hbase]
joseluisll opened a new pull request, #8744:
URL: https://github.com/apache/hbase/pull/8744
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HBASE-30461
If the region server is asked to stop while an `AssignRegionHandler` is opening a region, `postOpenDeployTasks` can fail with `RegionServerStoppedException`. That happens after the PONR, so today the handler aborts the region server, even though this was a normal requested stop.
With this change, if `postOpenDeployTasks` throws `RegionServerStoppedException` (but not `RegionServerAbortedException`) and the server is stopped, the handler:
- closes the region it just opened,
- clears the submitted procedure entry and the regions-in-transition entry,
- returns without aborting.
OPENED was never reported to the master, so the master reassigns the region when the stopping server expires. Any other failure after the PONR still aborts.
### Testing
Added `TestRegionServerStopDuringRegionOpen`. A coprocessor blocks `postOpen` on the target region server while it is stopped. The test then checks that the server shuts down without aborting and that the region it opened ends up closed.
