new open office user can't open downloaded app

Hi, I am on a 3 month old MAC Pro Laptop.

I downloaded Open Office for the MAC, the file says version 4.0.1.

I dragged the open office icon from my download folder to the Application folder.
I opened the Application folder and clicked on the Open Office icon.

The result looks like an apple message stating the system can’t open the application from an unidentified developer.
Anyone know why?

Thanks,
Tina

I know the Mac is user friendly, but for three months old kids is still
too complex
