johs opened a new issue #1407: Proxy bug in 2.1.1: httpd_global_handlers {couch_httpd_proxy, handle_proxy_req,..}
URL: https://github.com/apache/couchdb/issues/1407

   Configuring a proxy like this in 2.1.1 will fail:

       httpd_global_handlers
       _google
       {couch_httpd_proxy, handle_proxy_req, <<"http://www.google.com">>}

   ## Expected Behavior
   As described in http://docs.couchdb.org/en/2.1.1/config/proxying.html
   The proxy handler should map a pathname and pass all content after that prefix through to the configured proxy address.

   ## Current Behavior
   The proxy handler, in this example _google, will just return an error as if it was a database name:

       {"error":"unauthorized","reason":"You are not authorized to access this db."}

   first, then after login

       {"error":"not_found","reason":"Database does not exist."}

   ## Workaround: port 5986
   <!--- Not obligatory, but suggest a fix/reason for the bug, -->
   <!--- or ideas how to implement the addition or change -->
   According to Endy Jasmi in https://github.com/apache/couchdb/issues/1054:
   "Currently, after I have set the httpd_global_handlers, the proxy is working on port 5986 but not working on port 5984."

   ## Context
   <!--- How has this issue affected you? What are you trying to accomplish? -->
   <!--- Providing context helps us come up with a solution that is most useful in the real world -->

   ## Your Environment
   <!--- Include as many relevant details about the environment you experienced the bug in -->
   * Version used: 2.1.1
   * Browser Name and version: n/a
   * Operating System and version (desktop or mobile): OSX and Ubuntu
