Currently a simple tabbed pane is still missing from trinidad. This could be solved by adding an hint="tabs" (and other values, see <tr:navigationPane>) attribute to the <tr:panelTabbed> tag. This would be much cleaner than other work-arounds currently available.

Why would hint="tabs" be of any value on a panelTabbed?
The skinning selectors of panelTabbed possibly need to be enhanced, but I don't see what is wrong with that component. Could you be more explicit on short comings of panelTabbed that you would like to see addressed?
What are the "other work-arounds" that you mention.
I am personally using panelTabbed just fine with my custom skin (the default skin was darned ugly).

I just would like to have the panelTabbed look like a tabpane, with real tabs, not like a menu. I don't care how that is implemented, using skins might be best, I leave that to you. But it should be easy to select as an option. Just as in the navigationPane, where you select the appearance with the hint attribute, so I considered that as a consistent option. The work-arounds I have seen is using tables and CSS positioning to create tab look-alikes, things you really don't want to do...
