Build Errors

Hi

I've been following the Installation and Build guide to try and Build Slide.

I've come across two errors:

1. (Just out of interest) Lifecycle.java (whilst trying to build Catalina).

I managed to get around this error by using the previous version in CVS

2. StringValidator.java (whilst building slide). This file does not seem to

exist anywhere!? There are a number of other classes trying to use this one

in the package org.apache.slide.common.xml

Here is a sample error:

C:\Java\jakarta\jakarta-slide\src\share\org\apache\slide\common\xml\ScopeDes

criptor.java:170: Class

org.apache.slide.common.xml.StringValidator not found.

StringValidator sv = new StringValidator();

Thanks for any help.

Rich.

Strange error ...
I'm a contributor to Catalina, I have the latest CVS tree and I don't get
any error ...

Could you give me more details ?

to

That's a Castor dependancy.
You can get Castor from Exolab.org (which is down right now, but hopefully
it will be back up and running soon).

Regarding all those dependancies.
Right now, Slide needs this to build :
- Castor (castor.exolab.org)
- Xerces
- IBM Log4j (www.log4j.org)
- Catalina + its dependancies if you want to build the standalone DAV server

I will replace most of these components very soon (it's my top item on my
todo list, along with the DAV client library). Soon, the dependancy list
will be :
- The Avalon distribution (which is trivial to install)
- Catalina (which will be made Avalon aware too) + its dependancies if you
want to build the standalone DAV server

That way, it will get the following benefits :
- Easy to install and build
- Easy to package a distribution
- Easy deployment of new Slide applications
- Very easy to run for the end user

Slide was designed @Exoffice, with Exoffice needs in mind. That's why some
reengineering has to be done before it is fully usable outside of Exoffice
platform.

I will have a publicly accessible Slide based DAV server running soon,
hopefully by tomorrow.
