Planning the Next CloudStack Conference

We're just a few weeks out from the first CloudStack conference - so, of
course, it's time to start thinking about the one after that.

Citrix is willing to be a major sponsor for two CloudStack conferences
in 2013, similar to what we're planning in Las Vegas. More sponsors are
welcome, of course, but with Citrix's sponsorship we know we have the
funds to secure a venue and start on planning.

For the first 2013 event, I'd like to propose we consider something in the
May timeframe. One option might be to hold the conference near (time and
location-wise) Citrix Synergy 2013. This will be held in Anaheim,
California from May 22 - May 24, so we might look at the three days
prior/after the conference as a time to hold the CloudStack conference.

We're not locked into locating near Synergy, but it would be simpler
(and possibly cheaper) from a planning perspective.

(Note - we're not looking to have every event in North America, either -
I know we have contributors from outside the states who would prefer not
to have to trudge over to the States every time.)

Thoughts? Date-wise does this work? Does anyone have any strong feelings
on the location?

(My preference was Hawaii, but I think that the concern is Larry Ellison
will have bought all the islands by the next conference...)

Is that a blocker? On a 4-month cycle, I'm not sure it's imperative that
we target a conference immediately after a release.

If it is a blocker, what time-frame would you propose?

Note - if we decide not to locate near Synergy, we'll also need to
scout a location, etc.

(In that event, I vote St. Louis. I hear good things about it...)

Best,

Joe

IMO, no, but it will distract from testing obviously. I think we can
work around it though.

I can barely schedule my life one month out... so who knows ;-)

Hey all,

Just bumping this thread. A couple of folks expressed concern about the
proximity of the suggested dates w/r/t the 4.2 schedule. However:

1) With a time-based release cycle is this a blocker?

2) If so, suggestions for alternate dates? (Please bear in mind other
events like Linux Foundation End Users Conference, Collab
Summit/CloudOpen, etc.)

Ideally we would nail down a date for the next event before the
conference next week takes place.

Also - it'd be great to have as many committers/PPMC folks at the event
as possible. So if anybody's going to be unavailable during a specific
time in the Spring, now'd be a good time to speak up. We probably
wouldn't avoid a date for just one person, but if four or five people
are going to be out that'd be good to know now.

Define "closer". ;-) (Actually, suggest dates.)

With a time-based release, is this as important? I mean - I assume we'll
always be working on features, changes, etc. We're not holding releases
for specific features, so shouldn't we be able to discuss and present
ideas / features at almost any time?

Not that it matters, but vmware historically been releasing major version at the same time as conference - so they can discuss new features..
