Status of default publication in CVS

I've successfully built lenya from CVS.  I'm now looking for
a simple template publication to start with.  Default would
seem to fit my requirements but it seems broken with the following
org.apache.excalibur.source.SourceNotFound exception:

file:/src/cocoon-lenya/build/lenya/webapp/lenya/content/authoring/sitetree.xml

Somehow the "default" context is stripped out.  Is this a known
problem in CVS?
