[Bug 123491] New: Incorrect name and URL for ASF on introductory
screen
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=123491
Bug ID: 123491
Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: Incorrect name and URL for ASF on introductory screen
Product: Installation
Version: 4.0.1
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: CONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P3
Component: ui
Assignee: issues@openoffice.apache.org
Reporter: sebb@apache.org
CC: issues@openoffice.apache.org
I installed 4.0.1 recently, and noticed that the ASF feather logo has got
rather strange text associated with it.
The file in question seems to be:
https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/openoffice/trunk/main/default_images/introabout/intro.png
This has the Apache Feather in the bottom RHS, as follows:
{Apache.......} Apache
{Feather logo } Project
http://www.openoffice.org
This is really confusing.
The URL is for the OpenOffice product, not the ASF.
Also there is no such entity as "Apache Project"
It seems wrong to associate the Apache Feather with any URL except
http://www.apache.org/
Likewise the feather should have the proper text for the ASF, i.e.
"The Apache Software Foundation"
See for example:
http://www.apache.org/images/asf-logo.gif

Created attachment 81783

A possible fix for intro.png
Because the splash screen isn't on the screen for very long, I suggest no
links. Here is a png with the correct ASF logo with no link.

we can drop the feather in the start center completely or let it stand alone
but I don't like the idea to link back to apache.org where our typical user is
lost on the first shot.

I would prefer
1. remove it
or if the majority wants to keep it
2. make the Apache logo much smaller and move it down a little bit. It's to
dominant at the moment

My point is that the URL and text must agree with the logo.
I don't think it makes sense to drop the ASF feather; the Apache relationship
is vital for branding.
You can add an additional URL, for example in the middle of the page under the
AOO logo. This would give it more prominence.
The bottom of the screen should probably have some additional text to claim
trademarks for the AOO and Apache logos.
