Thanks [~erickerickson]. I have a couple nodes to test myself but I'll let you know if I need more help.

[~caomanhdat] helped track down the problem. A isSubShardLeader check was missing which caused this problem. I've pushed updates to the branch and I'm beasting the tests with only tlog replicas enabled.
