PROBLEM:

default installation of Ambari sets webhcat-site.xml

templeton.hive.properties=
hive.metastore.local=false, hive.metastore.uris=thrift://localhost:9933, hive.metastore.sasl.enabled=false

the proper value should be the FQDN of the thrift host name, plus hive.metastore.execute.setugi=true

for example:

hive.metastore.local=false, hive.metastore.uris=thrift://this.fqdn.com:9933, hive.metastore.sasl.enabled=false,hive.metastore.execute.setugi=true
