Great work Erik and Ashish! The site [1] looks like things are coming
along very well.
Just one concern, it looks like we are wasting a lot of real estate on
either side of the content area. Are we planning to make the page scale to
the entire page?

They are layers and can be extracted. We are working on it Nick. My team will create the HTML pages with navigation, then someone can integrate it with CMS.

I do not discourage use of tables all together. However, they must be laid out and structured correctly for SEO spiders to focus on main content. While this is complicated tables still can be made scannable. Below are few links that can help. There are also many books on SEO that you can go through.

There is no doubt that you are doing a wonderful job, but this was just a pointer to avoid excessive table use for layouts. What you have used is a table just for NAV and that is absolutely OK. Even we have used tables in our prototypes if you have noticed.
HTML5 and CSS3 specs allow for CSS based column layout, just so that you could place your important content closer to the beginning of the page and not worry about content ordering.
If we feel, SEO is not a big deal for us, we should use what is easy.

There is no CMS code in the published pages. The buildbot gathers and
parses all files from the SVN repo and creates plain HTML from them.
We need to work with the files in the repo to get this done. I've put
the relevant info and a short description of the workflow in one of
the comments on this JIRA issue.
As to tables, this was Googles first answer to my query "SEO tables":

So, in the grander scheme of things, I think using one to get the job
done with a minimum of fuss is acceptable. But I'm open to
suggestions, that's what I'm here for, to learn stuff. Do you have any
references for your statement about tables and SEO? I hadn't heard
about that before and would like to read up on it.

Om, my thoughts as well. Additionally, I will have to see how I can break the CMS to best accomplish one long page. It /can/ be done, I think, but the question is do we want to that direction.
I printed out the PSD on my plotter and have it on my whiteboard as separate pages. I like it, and I think it could be easily scaled for mobile too... I think...

This works well for all form factors. The concept is to have fixed headers and footers and change the center content section. We are working on creating the baked HTML pages. Nick please let us know if CMS needs us to change the design of the layouts and HTML navigation. You already know the URL for the preview we built.

It wasn't designed for mobile but I think it should fit well on tablets. We could think later on about some tweaks to save space for smaller screens/resolutions.

Ah, and unless someone makes a really compelling argument otherwise, let's stick with plain HTML, some JavaScript if needed, and CSS, so no jQuery or other frameworks. Let's be conservative in what tricks we use and how far we go with the various browser specific prefixes and stuff like that.
We want to try to make all (reasonably) current browsers happy and have a graceful degradation for any features not supported.
Please test on both Mac and Windows, and focus on Chrome, Firefox and IE.

Ok, just to be clear: you see how the templates fit together? Beside the main tempate, there are a header and footer, which contains the top navigation and bottom license information, respectively. I'm going to restructure the pages/site a bit, to accomodate the content of the current website.

We are not at a 100% on the mobile view. We are working on a approach that can upscale or downscale the page. While whats in your screenshot is partially acceptable, we are doing a POC to see if we can scale vertically on a 4.5 and below form factor. If you look at the current page in landscape on mobile browser, you shouldn't see any issues on the web page. Do you?

I've split design to see how it looks and it looks fine too. I'm not designer but I've also managed to add simple footer. You can see results at http://clients.fusecollective.com/flex/apache_flex_home.jpg and http://clients.fusecollective.com/flex/apache_flex_get_started.jpg.

I haven't had time for a full review but a couple of things that pops up are:
a) background of the middle section with content:
- it should be gray on full page width not just grey rectangle with rounded corners
- background image with "X" should be the same size all the time (regardless content size in the section)
b) top, bottom
- it should be 100% width with box-shadow (something like: -webkit-box-shadow: 0px 3px 1px -2px #bcbcbc; box-shadow: 0px 3px 1px -2px #bcbcbc;)
c) menu
- selected state is missing for menu item (should look same as over state)
- menu items are jiggling a little on rollover

Basically, no :-( The Apache CMS is a custom CMS loosely based on Django. It took me a (long) while to figure out how it operates, as documentation is scarce and all over the place (if it even exists). My current setup is that I have HTML copies of all the files in the "again" branche and I work on those locally. Once I'm satisfied with the result, I break the changes down into their separate template parts (header, footer, content, navigation, CSS) and update SVN. The commit to SVN triggers the 'buildbot', which pulls together the templates and content and creates new HTML that is put on the 'staging' server. This is my first 'real life' look at the results. After tweaking a bit, I get to 'publish' all staged files (not sub-sets or anything that fancy) to the 'live' server.
TL;DR: make a local copy of the files, work on those and submit patches based on your changes.

Yup! I got that. We are trying to retain the layer styles (Drop Shadows esp.), which is being removed in CSS. If you noticed, the Header buttons are created using CSS but don’t have drop shadow.
However, how do you like the layout on various devices?

Looks great. See a few minor issues on the main page (did not look at the
rest):
1. There is weird horizontal jiggle when hovering over the main menu
buttons "About" "Getting Started" etc.
2. Same thing with the second horizontal menu "Supported Platforms", "News"
3. In IE 9 there is a border outline showing up around the apacheFlex logo
on the top left, the home button, and the Read More button.

I think my guys did a great job on this. Fits well on all form factors; portrait and landscape. Double tap works well to zoom in to a section.

A little note/explanation to the design. The APACHE SOFTWARE FOUNDATION section is not meant to be footer. From what I remember Apache guidelines requires that project pages have this info on their website so this was meant to be regular section (with link only) to which you need to scroll to. I'm currently creating the 'framework' for the new site in the CMS. This is mostly done in the form of templates. You can have a look at:

The templates I'm working on are the ones that start with "flex_". Upon a build (triggered by commit to SVN) these templates are applied to the content files here:

It is with these content files that I can use help. They should follow the design as specified on:
http://www.zootar.com/apache/
But with content from the current website. I'm not entirely sure how we can best proceed. First I'd suggest you get a basic familiarity with the working of the CMS, so you understand what can and can't be done wrt the content. And I guess we'll need to take it from there.
