something happened

 I turned on my computer this afternoon and all my documents had a $ sign or some other character at the beginning of each.  Plus, many of my documents have simply disappeared.  I have no idea what has happened.  The only change I have made recently is the installation of McAfee security.  Can you help?The greatest dangers to liberty lurk in insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well meaning, but without understanding.  (Louis D.
