[jira] [Commented] (SPARK-2458) Make failed application log visible on History Server

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SPARK-2458?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=14221089#comment-14221089 ]

Ryan Williams commented on SPARK-2458:
--------------------------------------

Any updates here, perhaps on [~andrewor14]'s [suggestion|https://github.com/apache/spark/pull/1558#issuecomment-55334577] on the now-closed PR to let the user toggle whether the history server shows "incomplete" applications?

The failure mode of having nothing show up on the history server if {{SparkContext.stop()}} is not called, and the semantics around what constitutes a "completed" application (e.g. application stopped running months ago but is not considered to have "completed" because the empty file is missing), have been very confusing to my team.

> History server is very helpful for debugging application correctness & performance after the application finished. However, when the application failed, the link is not listed on the hisotry server UI and history can't be viewed.
> It would be very useful if we can check the history of failed application.
