Re: [REMINDER] Incubator PMC/Board report for Nov 2015 ([ppmc])
Please see the draft below. Let's give it one day and if everything looks
good, we can add it to the wiki.
Thanks,
Thomas
---------------
Apex
Apex is an enterprise grade native YARN big data-in-motion platform that
unifies stream processing as well as batch processing.
Apex has been incubating since 2015-08-17.
Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation:
1. Release Apex-Core, and Apex-Malhar at least twice.
2. Grow contributors beyond the initial set.
Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be aware
of?
None. Thanks for continual support.
How has the community developed since the last report?
The community is very engaged with the development of the project. There
have been 788 messages on dev@ for October.
The community has been active building meetup groups in various
locations:
http://www.meetup.com/find/?allMeetups=false&keywords=Apache+Apex&radius=Infinity&sort=default
How has the project developed since the last report?
The first release under incubation passed voting. Apex (Core)
3.2.0-incubating was released 2015-10-30.
The community is discussing roadmap for upcoming releases.
Various metrics are as follows:
+---------------------------------------------------+
| Metric | Core | Malhar |
+---------------------------------------------------+
| Non Merge Commits | 159 | 39 |
| Contributors | 15 | 9 |
| Jira New Issues | 58 | 19 |
| Resolved Issues | 34 | 30 |
+---------------------------------------------------+
The project is still using the Atlassian instance of JIRA. The migration
to Apache JIRA is underway.
The next release target is Apex Malhar with release candidate expected
fist week of November.
Date of last release:
2015-10-30 Apex (Core) 3.2.0-incubating
When were the last committers or PMC members elected?
Committers and Mentors came about via incubation proposal.

Thanks Chris.
Alan, I just read your mentor note. The initial committer list is 49
people. Would be nice to see this corrected.
As discussed we are going to take up this topic on the dev@ list.

As commented on INFRA-10144, Gavin did an initial migration run that did
not pull in all the information. And it will need to be repeated anyways as
time has passed and many more tickets were added since then. We are using
the JIRA to setup the road map, so the migration is critical.
I would also like to request that we have the admin access to the JIRA
project, which may potentially allow us to pull missing information
ourselves.
Thanks,
Thomas

INFRA-10144 has tracked the Apache JIRA migration request since August.
I've asked for progress multiple times, but the work keeps getting
stalled, presumably due to competing priorities on the infrastructure
team. Is this an appropriate thing to mention in response to "Any issues
that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be aware of?"
Would the wider IPMC have the ability to help prioritize the infra team
finishing the JIRA migration?

Hi,
Some suggestions, please free free to disregard:
- For 1 I’d change the wording of a little as there is no set number of releases while in incubation.
- Possible add 3. Move to using Apache JIRA.
- Re 2 have we seen any people from outside the initial list be active in the project? I did note that one person who was not on the initial list did vote on the last release.
- Out of interest what’s the hold up with JIRA as we waiting on Infra or is it more complex than that?
- Perhaps also note there was a little confusion regarding whose votes were binding on the release but that has been resolved.
Thanks,
Justin
