[DISCUSS] Standardize on JDK6 for OODT Java Components

Hi All,

The introduction of OPeNDAP ps in OODT-9 [1] introduced a JDK6 dependency (the netcdf-4.2 jar library from Maven Central). This led to one of our downstream users seeing an issue when trying to build OODT with a JDK5 runtime (see OODT-100 [2]).

Most of us haven't noticed a problem with the build, because, well, most of us are using JDK6.

JDK5 was EOL'ed years ago, and JDK6 is already on its way to being EOL'ed, especially with the introduction of the JSR for Java7 moving forward. I'd like to propose that we simply standardize on JDK6 for OODT components moving forward. We did this over in Apache SIS [3] and it's worked out well.

Any objections?

Cheers,
Chris
