I cannot see doing anything concrete with this bug report, for at least two
important reasons:

* Changing the method signatures now would destroy backwards
  compatibility, and cannot be contemplated without thinking
  about a major version number change.

* The bug report doesn't suggest any concrete changes :-).
  It only expresses an opinion which is not universally shared.
