java.lang.NoSuchMethodError
Hi,
I've deployed Archiva 1.3.5 on Tomcat 6.0.29. I use CentOS as OS. I've followed the installation guide:
1. archiva directory created under tomcat base directory
2. war placed in the created directory
3. archiva.xml file added in the conf/Catalina/localhost directory
4. Content of the archiva.xml file :
<Context path="/archiva"
docBase="${catalina.home}/archiva/apache-archiva-1.3.5.war">
<Resource name="jdbc/users" auth="Container" type="javax.sql.DataSource"
username="sa"
password=""
driverClassName="org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver"
url="jdbc:derby:${catalina.home}/archiva/database/users;create=true" />
<Resource name="jdbc/archiva" auth="Container" type="javax.sql.DataSource"
username="sa"
password=""
driverClassName="org.apache.derby.jdbc.EmbeddedDriver"
url="jdbc:derby:${catalina.home}/archiva/database/archiva;create=true" />
<Resource name="mail/Session" auth="Container"
type="javax.mail.Session"
mail.smtp.host="localhost"/>
</Context>
5. Environment variable CATALINA_OPTS modified to CATALINA_OPTS="-Dappserver.home=$CATALINA_HOME -Dappserver.base=$CATALINA_HOME"
6. Reboot of computer
I can see under Tomcat manager that Archiva is started but when I access to http://<host>:8080/archiva, I get the following error :
java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.eclipse.jdt.internal.compiler.CompilationResult.getProblems()[Lorg/eclipse/jdt/core/compiler/CategorizedProblem;

Hi,
Finally, I've tried on Ubuntu and I've installed Tomcat 6.0.32 and it works.
I don't know if the problem was related to CentOS. Maybe, some libraries are provided by CentOS and because it was an old version, this may cause problems but I don't know.
Thanks for your help, Brett!

Should be fine.
A few things to try:
- check your Tomcat install is intact. I was able to find the class referred to with jar tvf /usr/local/tomcat/lib/ecj-3.3.1.jar | grep Categoriz
- try upgrading to the latest Tomcat 6.0 (I have 6.0.32 working)
- try settings the appserver variables to a location outside of the Tomcat installation - you probably don't want them mixed up anyway
Have you considered using the standalone distribution?

Yes, this is a dedicated machine that we've installed yesterday and Tomcat hasn't been modified to use the Eclipse compiler. We didn't change anything after installation.
We use CentOS 5.4 as OS, and this is an old one, do you think it can be related to?

This doesn't look like something that should come out of the stock installation. Is this a first time set up? Have you modified Tomcat to use the Eclipse compiler in the past?

RE: Archiva Purge supports maven "classifier" tag?
Posted by "HandUber, Jason (US SSA)" <ja...@baesystems.com>.
Brett,
That totally worked! I just checked the box next to "repository-purge" under "Repository Scanning - Consumers of Known Content". I never even scrolled all the way down there on the 'Repository Scanning' tab - that was kinda hidden! And you're right, I had to restart Archiva before it started deleting.
Cheers!
Jason

Looks right - is the snapshot consumer enabled on the repository scanning page? It is off by default. In some circumstances, you may need to restart Archiva after it is enabled.

Archiva Purge supports maven "classifier" tag?
Posted by "HandUber, Jason (US SSA)" <ja...@baesystems.com>.
Hello,
Thank you in advance for reading this!
I'm using Archiva 1.3.5's snapshots repository with:
Purge by days older than = 0
Retention count = 2
Releases Included = False
Block Re-deployment of Release Artifacts = False
Snapshots Included = True
Scannable = True
Delete Released Snapshots = True
I have scanned the repository multiple times with the "process all artifacts" checkbox checked. Nevertheless, I have hundreds of jars in my snapshot repository when I look at it via the 'webdav' url. Below is a small portion of the jars displayed via the 'webdav' url. Has anyone had luck purging old snapshots where the maven "classifier" is used to identify the artifact? Is it safe to manually delete these files on the archiva machine's file system?
Thanks,
Jason
