[users@httpd] No REMOTE_USER in cgi-bin C with httpd 2.0.47

Hello,

I'm new in your mailing list.
Sorry for my broken nglish but I try my best.

My question :

I use Apache 1.3 series as Web server since almost 2 years without any trouble.
I have defined several website that all use the Auth series directives such as 'AuthType', 'AuthName', 'AuthFile' and 'Require
user'. All is work perfectly with apache 1.3.
In each of these website, I use a cgi-bin developed in C that is associated with the phc extension file as described below.

Recently, I decided to update my webserver and I installed httpd v2.0.47, mySQL 4.0.13 and PHP 4.3.2
my websites runs perfectly except for the REMOTE_USER environment variable.

in my httpd.conf (as for the Apache 1.3) :

AddType application/x-httpd-phc .phc
Action application/x-httpd-phc "/cgi-bin/phc"

<VirtualHost *>
    ServerAdmin myadress@mydomain.fr
    DocumentRoot "/home/www/addsoft/www"
    ServerName www.mydomain.fr
    ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ "/home/www/addsoft/cgi-bin/"
</VirtualHost>

<Directory /home/www/addsoft/www/conf>
    Options Indexes
    Order deny,allow
    Deny from all
    AuthType Basic
    AuthName "Server Configuration : dev zone Restricted Directory"
    AuthUserFile /mydirectory/htpasswd
    Require user myuser
    Satisfy any
</Directory>

This is exactly the same configuration as I used with apache 1.3.20

In apache 1.3.20, the REMOTE_USER is defined when necessary but with apache 2.0.47, it does not work for the REMOTE_USER environment
variable. When I ask a page in my conf directory, apache ask me for a username and a password, refused it if it does not correspond
to an available user but if the user is correct, answer the correct page but without define in my environment variable the
REMOTE_USER value and the AUTH_TYPE value.

I really have verified all my configuration, I don't find anything.
Does any one has a good idea on why it does not work ?
We think that there is a bug in the use of cgi-bin developed in C. But we are not sure.

I have also remarked that the printenv.pl runs ok and give the REMOTE_USER value, a filter also gives me the REMOTE_USER but no my C
program used in cgi-bin.

Feel free to ask more details if necessary.

OK IT'S PERFECT.

Thanks to André, thanks to Thomas.
It's working on my server.
My cgi obtains a REDIRECT_REMOTE_USER when I ask for an autenticated page.
I really appreciate the effort you done to help me.
My question is definitively answered.

If I can do something for you, do not hesitate do ask me.

Have a good day and may the force be with you...........

Yes. (It's just REDIRECT_REMOTE_USER however).
2.0.48 will probably come soon, so you shouldn't wait too long :)

If you already want to apply the patch that will be in 2.0.48, here is it:
http://cvs.apache.org/viewcvs.cgi/httpd-2.0/server/util_script.c.diff?r1=1.80.2.1&r2=1.80.2.2

Thanks again for your answer.
I can't find the path but I think I found an answer to my question.

As I read, I'll be patient until the v2.0.48 will be released :
the cgi-bin won't receive the REMOTE_USER if it is not authenticated but will receive the REDIRECTED_REMOTE_USER in the next
release.

I hope it is correct.
Thanks to every body.

The patch is included in the duplicate bug reports. Currently I don't
have access to an unpatched machine. So I can't verify if the patch actually
solves your problem.

Thanks for your answer.
But i already saw this bug before i wrote my question.
It does not seem to be my bug.
I don't use .htaccess file for my Require directive. I just use Directory directive as i wrote the configuration in my initial
message.

You talk about a patch, what is it ?

Thanks again.

I hope any one else can have an other suggestion.

Please take a look at the following and duplicate bugs:
http://nagoya.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=10678

The current solution could be to apply the patch. I'm not sure if the
next release will fix this issue.
