Good idea - rather than removing all the files - just in case someone 
comes in who will support it. We can change the configure as you say !

+1 for removing configure.

Being this is a C++ project, people naturally look for configure.

May be we can remove the current configure and have a dummy configure
shell script to echo a message informing users to use ant and that make
is not operational.
