Wicket 6.x behaves the same way as 7.3.0+, so I'd say this was a regression in 7.0.0-7.2.0.

As [~svenmeier] suggested on the mailing lists you can still trigger the loading of the markup in an earlier phase than rendering with:

	protected void onInitialize() {
		super.onInitialize();
		dequeue();
	}
