[jira] [Created] (HIVE-18691) Drop Support for Explicit Table Lock
From Apache Hive
BELUGA BEHR created HIVE-18691:
----------------------------------
Summary: Drop Support for Explicit Table Lock From Apache Hive
Key: HIVE-18691
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HIVE-18691
Project: Hive
Issue Type: Improvement
Components: HiveServer2
Affects Versions: 3.0.0
Reporter: BELUGA BEHR
The ability to explicitly lock a Hive table:
* Is not officially [documented|https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/Hive/Locking]
* It's buggy [HIVE-10984]
* Not implemented everywhere [HIVE-12285]
Please consider dropping this feature from Hive 3.0. If applications need synchronization, allow them to do it externally, directly through something like ZooKeeper.
