My email is being collected from here...

Hi everyone. I noticed that for some reason my email address is in full text on here, and I would like it removed. The topic is http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/ds/viewMessage.do?dsForumId=4061&viewType=browseAll&dsMessageId=105062. If someone can help me get that deleted, and then probably this one too, that would be great.

Thanks!

I've been on mailing lists, including UseNet news groups that go back to when Unix systems transferred files between each other (e-mail and news) via uucp.
Under no circumstances should anyone expect privacy of their postings. They will be archived and they will be viewable, these days, by "google" search engines. If you don't want your posting to be extremely public, do not post, just lurk.
Expectation of privacy has never been there on public lists, for as long as I can remember.

While personally I don't have much sympathy for this, I will be the
first to admit that obfuscation technique used by the list archives is
not very good and easy for spammers to predict/work around. There
are much better solutions (such as using javascript) out there.

At the same time, everyone should know by now that the moment you
email a mailing list your address will get harvested by spammers. If
you don't like it, don't email the list. Yes it sucks, but life is
like that sometimes.

And he could file an issue in the Tigris issue tracker for this if he wanted to. (It's not unique to the Subversion or TortoiseSVN projects.) But the last request of that type was "resolved" as "wontfix" years ago:

http://www.tigris.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=3

I for one am happy the Subversion project is moving its hosting from Tigris to the ASF; hopefully they have more sensible practices.

He probably wants where the mail host is obscured in the archives or
maybe even hidden by the list server so it would strip all email
addresses that aren't "users@subversion.tigris.org"
<us...@subversion.tigris.org>.

Free throwaway email addresses are fairly easy to obtain if you really
want to post something and then become unreachable. But, I don't see
that much spam getting through gmail's filtering anyway so I generally
don't worry about it that much.

I know it's too take now but a good idea is to create an email address that you only use for a specific mail list. You can bounce any mail that doesn't come from the list. (Of course then you will miss direct replies.)

Your email is probably also here on this archive:

http://svn.haxx.se/tsvnusers/

You should resign yourself that you're email is out there for perpetuity.
