Xindice 1.1b Life Without Servlet Engine
Hi all,
Is it possible to run Xindice without Tomcat as of
version 1.1b (CVS Version)? I am curious if I need to
mount it as a webapp since the Command Line Interface
still works fine without the webapp running under
cocoon. pros, cons?
Thanks in Advance,
Julian

Re: Xindice 1.1b Life Without Servlet Engine (embed vs. servlet?)
Posted by Julian <ce...@yahoo.com>.
Hello All,
Thanks, but I am quite sure that the collections
were going in the right place before since it only
took a server restart for the collections to
appear/disappear. I took a long time to get back to
you since I did a cvs update and now nothing of mine
works! I can;t even get access to my collections.
Even the command line spits out a lot of ugly debug
info now which revolves around a "database.xml" file
that prints out and appears to be malformed (ends with
"</database>>"). I am not sure if this means I
cannot embed Xindice in my app as a set of JARs since
the command line tool works? Sorry about the info
overload. As soon as I get a handle on this I'll post
my results.
Thanks Again,
Julian

The problem with creating them with the JAVA API is that they go
into a different database. From the command-line it is wherever
your xindice_home is pointing. With tomcat it is different.
Search your drive for "db". Or look for directories with the
same name as your collections.

Well I got Xindice running in Tomcat with just having
the xml-**.jars and xindice.jar in
$TOMAT_HOME/common/lib. Oh, I also set the
-Dxindice.configuration option in catalina.sh.
So it does seem to work fine...except when I create
collections via the JAVA API and restarted the server,
my collections are gone. I think this is unrelated
however since I had this problem previously.
Thanks,
Julian

IMHO if you can setup and RPC server outwith a web container then that should
work too ?
Best Regards.

1.0 was a standalone application. Today you have either embed it in your application or use a
servlet. I believe there is work to make it available in JBoss, but I don't know the details.

Xindice version 1.1b, in my opinion, not worked without Tomcat (or other servlet containers)
