[RELEASE]: availability of uploads and synchronize SF mirrors

The vote closed successful and I have once again uploaded the files in
the dist are on the people server.

/www/www.apache.org/dist/openoffice/4.0.0

The relevant files for SF are under
/www/www.apache.org/dist/extgernaldist/openoffice/4.0.0

I hope the rsync url works now, if not please contact the infra people
directly.

rsync Url: rsync.apache.org::apache-dist-external

A complete file list can you find here
http://people.apache.org/~jsc/aoo4.0_files_dist-openoffice-4.0.0.txt
http://people.apache.org/~jsc/aoo4.0_files_dist-externaldist-openoffice-4.0.0.txt

As I mentioned earlier I will be not available until next week Thursday.
But I hope I can follow the release a little bit to have some fun with
you all together ;-)

@Roberto:
I have created a "4.0.0" staged directory (with sub-dirs and files) in:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/openofficeorg.mirror/files/

If this interfere with the new upload just delete them. I don't want to
do this. Maybe I would delete a running rsync by acccident. ;-)

Staged folders are synchronized to our download mirrors just like all other
files.

Yes, I thought about that, too.

Are the staged dirs/files also mirrored or do they stay the SourceForge
main server until they get unstaged?

If the first I think tomorrow is sufficient.

Thanks

OK, good to know.

Maybe a general problem, a little hint for fixing: ;-)

I've unchecked the box and hit on [Save] several times. But the hint
"staged" remained behind the folder name. Then I have reloaded the
complete webpage and now it was removed.

The files are all already propagated, unstaging happens exactly when you
delete the status.

I've now deleted the staged status from the new "4.0.0" directory.

I expect that this attribute change has to be distributed to all
mirrors. So, we should have enough time until tomorrow.

Re: [RELEASE]: availability of uploads and synchronize SF mirrors

Posted by "Marcus (OOo)" <ma...@wtnet.de>.
Hopefully the last update:

1.
The mirror server at SourceForge and Apache are filled.

2.
The main download webpages (http://www.openoffice.org/download/) are
prepared, the links are working and I don't see bigger problems that
couldn't be fixed right after the announcement.

3.
The Apache project download webpage
(http://openoffice.apache.org/downloads.html) is prepared but not yet
known by the public. It can be exchanged within a minute.

I've done many little changes in the last hours but even webpages are
software - and software is never finsihed. ;-)

Therefore good night for the moment.

This sounds great!

Btw, is the list of URLs available anywhere?

To gather the download stats I need a list of URLs, one per line, like
this from 3.4.1:

https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/openoffice/devtools/aoo-stats/341.lst

I can get it into that format if there is an HTML page or similar that
has all the URLs.

With the download website update I can wait until Monday evening
European time (7pm, 8pm, 9pm) which is noon/afternoon in the US
(depending on the respective timezones). Everything later is in the
night for me and not really optimal. ;-)

I hope this is also OK.

We had to make a call last week when we sent out the press release and

would be on Tuesday morning. So they are holding back their articles
until then. We'll hurt our relationship with them if we announce too
far before them. We need to give them the opportunity to publish
newsworthy stories.

But there is nothing wrong with having the download site working a
little earlier, say later Monday afternoon. That would give some time
to test. It also allows us to update the links from some of the NL
websites, enable the update service, etc. But I recommend we still
wait until Tuesday morning for the announcement.

You are right, at least the checksum files need to be availble, too.

Really? I thought it was meant like "do it on Monday but if it delays to
Tuesday it is also OK".

Right. OK, then let's wait for Monday.

No, what in the meantime it seems resolved (see my other mail).

Sure, AOO 4.0 is a bigger release. So, we can do such a little big bang.

Thanks for checking, but Sally and the Apache Press Team are already
coordinating communication about the coming OpenOffice release and are
fully up-to-date.

Hey all,

Just checking but has anyone looped Sally on the planned release timing so
she can PR, tweet, etc on ASF channels (in addition to AOO specific ones)?
I'd be happy to pick it up if there's lack of a volunteer but will wait on
a PMC member's green light.

@Marcus, let me know what you're thinking so the websites logo changes,
system requirements, install guide, release notes go at the same time -- or
maybe before.

Yes, this is a problem. Remember, dist is also the secured Apache
location for the KEYS file as well as the MD5 and SHA256 files for the
binaries. So we really need to have that working before we start
distributing the binaries.

But the release announcement is not happening until Tuesday morning,
so there should be time to figure this out.

The announcement is planned for Tuesday morning, not Monday. I don't
mind if the website gets updated a half day or so before then, but I
think we need to have our stuff on apache.org/dist before this
happens.

Do you know what the technical problem is?

as stated in the original thread "Problem accessing web site" you have
to use the "http://www.apache.org/dist/externaldist/openoffice/"
directory. However, it seems the closer.cgi needs to be adapted.

Yes, but still only the hash files. Look at the sizes in the most right
column. No KB or MB units, so just some bytes.

The binary files are in the externaldist directory.

fully available here:

There is a thread on the infrastructure ML that includes Juergen about this. Apparently it is there, but not there. This may have something to do with apache mirroring between US and Europe. I would suggest that you go on IRC #asfinfra and ask about this situation and not assume one way or another.

This is unchanged.

At the end it seems that we won't have source files available when we
annouce the release. Is this any kind of stopper? The source is
available as usual via SVN access. So, I don't know.

If not then I would unstage the dirs/files on SourceForge and therefore
make the AOO 4.0 release visible for the world. And update the download
webpages.

As the announcement is planned for Monday I will do this on Sunday
evening (European time).

Any objections?

Re: [RELEASE]: availability of uploads and synchronize SF mirrors

Posted by "Marcus (OOo)" <ma...@wtnet.de>.
Here a little update what I can see:

1.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/openofficeorg.mirror/files/4.0.0/binaries/

The builds seem to be completely received on SourceForge. So, for me
it's done.

2.
http://www.apache.org/dist/

No "openoffice" directory and therefore no binary and source builds.
Maybe Juergen and Infra are still working on this. I'll look again today
evening/tomorrow morning (European timezone).
