Performance hints?

Are there any tricks to writing faster xsp pages?
Specifically, are there any ways to speed up xsl
template matching? I've got some reasonably simple
static pages that are taking about 2 seconds to come
back, even after they've been compiled. I'm using a
lot of <xsl:apply-templates>, which I suspect are
chewing up the CPU.
