+1 for this.

it will also be beneficial if we are able to add similar testNG groups at
test level also. That will give more control to the person running
regression and interested in testing on particular feature or exclude some
particular group.

I have a minor suggestion:

features can be broken down to:

* lifecycle
* lifecycle/replication
* lifecycle/retention
etc.

Lineage is under metadata

metadata/lineage
metadata/discovery

I am also in favor of TestNG grouping. We can keep these as separate tasks.
