Cheeseshop hosting is GO
OK folks, the official word is that we are allowed to host not just the metadata but also the source tarballs for Python packages on the Python Package Index [1], aka the Cheeseshop.
So, if no one minds, I'd like to go ahead and update the Cheeseshop entry for oodt-0.1 within the next 24 hours, unless there are any objections. Speak now.
Prior to oodt-0.2, I'll update the release documentation [2], to include uploading the package to the Cheeseshop.
Paul, since you're the release engineer for 0.2, you'll need to register on the Cheeseshop. You can use an OpenID [3] or the built-in registration system.
Let me know once you're registered and I'll give you perms on the oodt project [4].

Hey Guys,
Got a little distracted this weekend I forgot we were having company in town and over. That said I will have time tomorrow to work on a RC.
Thanks,
Paul

I mean, we simply just VOTE to release the 0.1-incubating Python tarballs, signed by Sean Kelly, and a positive VOTE indicates, OK Sean, copy them to the regular Apache dist area too).

At a bare minimum, it is. However, I think it'd be good to also host
the resulting tarballs on our site. This way that any variances in
the generation process are minimized and we know exactly what we are
voting. Or, that if cheeseshop/pypi ever disappears, we have the
releases ourselves and don't have to recreate them.

Yes, I'd just create a sub-dir in our regular dist area for agility.
The bundles can be included as part of the standard release process -
so the RM as part of their producing the release also produces the
Python. No extra votes required going forward. -- justin

Hey Justin,
2 questions:
1. the source release for OODT 0.1-incubating (which contains the Python setup.py package/etc. that *generate* the tarballs when bdist_egg and sdist are call) is on Apache servers -- that good enough?
2. if #1 is *not* what you were intending, where should we put em'? In the regular dist area? If so, then I'd say hold off on putting 0.1-incubating to PyPI and just let Paul do it as part of the 0.2 release process, because that would imply we'd have to VOTE again, have someone sign them, etc. (which thinking about it now wouldn't be horrible, right? Thoughts?
Cheers,
Chris

Sure, but please ensure that the tarballs for the Python packages are
also somewhere on apache.org as well.
IOW, it's fine to put releases on other sites, but make sure it's
available on apache.org. -- justin

Thanks Paul.
I gave you admin perms as one of the owners of oodt at Cheeseshop and updated all over there to ASLv2 license and the Home page URL link.
Basically I would:
1. add this step to the release guide: after 3 +1s do this:
- cd $OODT/agility
- python setup.py bdist_egg sdist register publish
2. also make sure before you put out the RC source tarball to not just update the java versions to 0.2 but also the agile oodt one in agility.
All set!
Cheers,
Chris

Hey All,
Registered at Cheeseshop my ID there is pramirez. Working on figuring out what I need to do now for the RC.
