This is not how things work at the Apache Software Fundation. Please read https://www.apache.org/dev/release.html

Notably in https://www.apache.org/dev/release.html#what

The Apache Software Foundation produces open source software. All releases are in the form of the source materials needed to make changes to the software being released.

Of course, as is also said in this section, we could provide bytecode packages. But since we provide OOTB all what is needed to build (Ant is embedded) we decided to not do so.

Anyway adding only the ofbiz.jar file would not help. You need to follow the process shown in the README file (in OFBiz root dir).

BTW, the instruction to build are also provided on the [OFBiz Download page (see "Quick start" section)|http://ofbiz.apache.org/download.html] from where I guess you initially went to get the release (before being redirected to a mirror site)

We also provide nightly snapshots and archives at http://ci.apache.org/projects/ofbiz/snapshots/. But I believe the "README way" is the easiest one.

> following the demo and test setup guide (https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OFBADMIN/Demo+and+Test+Setup+Guide), i downloaded ver 12.04.02, extracted it to a directory, and attempted to run startofbiz.bat from the ofbiz directory (named apache-ofbiz-12.04.02). no file found.
> searched for the bat file; found it in tools subdir. ran it. couldn't start java from \bin\java.
> set JAVA_HOME and re-ran startofbiz.bat; couldn't find ofbiz.jar. performed dir/s/b ofbiz.jar, file not found.
> apparently the ofbiz.jar file doesn't exist.
> ofbiz.jar should be included in the download.
