Does libhdfs require Java

Does libhdfs require Java installed?
Can I write a C++ application that is using HDFS without requiring
Java installation?

Unfortunately not. Actually the libhdfs implementation is just a front-face
in C++ for the original Java code of HDFS. It uses JNI to access the
original code which requires the Java Runtime Environment.
