[D] Couldn't find the option to enable cross-filtering [superset]

I've tried watching tutorials and documentation about cross-filtering but somehow the option to enable cross filtering isn't appearing for me.
For example in a video they toggle the cross-filtering through this :

in my interface, this button does not exist

@dosu making sure again, cross filtering IS enabled for bar and piechart right? the option does not appear in the drop down for me. The option does not appear in built in dashboards and charts either

Yes, Superset includes two built-in sample dashboards with cross-filtering enabled by default: the "Sales Dashboard" and "Featured Charts". To check if cross-filtering is enabled for a dashboard in Superset v5.0.0, inspect the dashboard's metadata for the `cross_filters_enabled` flag. You can do this by exporting the dashboard (from the dashboard actions menu) and looking for `"cross_filters_enabled": true` in the exported JSON/YAML, or by using the Superset REST API to fetch the dashboard's metadata. If this flag is `true` (or not set, since it defaults to enabled), cross-filtering should be active for supported charts on that dashboard [reference](https://github.com/apache/superset/discussions/32615) [Sales Dashboard example](https://github.com/apache/superset/blob/829e4d92d91ceae4b43b1ed3b063ffe45377799c/superset/examples/configs/dashboards/Sales_Dashboard.yaml).

Here's how to enable and use cross-filtering in Superset v5.0.0:
1. Make sure you're using a chart type that supports cross-filtering. Supported types include Table, Pivot Table, World Map, and most ECharts visualizations (like Timeseries, Area, Pie, Sunburst). Some charts, such as Bubble, Histogram, and Sankey, do not support cross-filtering as of v5.0.0 and won't show the option in the UI [(source)](https://github.com/apache/superset/pull/30176).
2. You must have edit permissions on the dashboard. Cross-filtering controls only appear for users who can edit the dashboard [(source)](https://github.com/apache/superset/blob/829e4d92d91ceae4b43b1ed3b063ffe45377799c/superset-frontend/src/dashboard/components/SliceHeaderControls/index.tsx).
3. Each chart must have at least one dimension (a group-by field). If a chart only has metrics and no dimensions, cross-filtering will be disabled for that chart [(source)](https://github.com/apache/superset/pull/30176).
4. Open your dashboard in edit mode. Find a supported chart and click the vertical dots (rotated ellipsis) in the chart header to open the dropdown menu.
5. If the chart supports cross-filtering and you have edit permissions, you'll see a "Cross-filtering scoping" option in the dropdown. Click it to configure cross-filtering for that chart.
6. To use cross-filtering, interact with the chart (for example, click a bar or a pie slice). This will apply a filter to other charts on the dashboard that share compatible dimensions.
If you don't see the cross-filtering option, double-check the chart type, your dashboard permissions, and that the chart has at least one dimension. For dashboards using multiple datasets, make sure the fields you want to cross-filter on are present and compatible across the relevant charts [(source)](https://github.com/apache/superset/discussions/32615).
There is no global toggle or feature flag for cross-filtering in v5.0.0; it's entirely chart- and permission-driven. If you want to ensure cross-filtering is enabled at the dashboard level, you can check that the dashboard's metadata includes `"cross_filters_enabled": true`, but this is usually handled automatically [(source)](https://github.com/apache/superset/discussions/32615).

You don't need to restart Docker Compose or reset Superset after enabling cross-filtering. Once you update the dashboard metadata (for example, by saving changes in the dashboard UI or via API), the setting is applied automatically—just reload the dashboard in your browser to see it take effect. All changes are served dynamically from the database, so no backend or container restart is required for cross-filtering to work [source](https://github.com/apache/superset/blob/829e4d92d91ceae4b43b1ed3b063ffe45377799c/superset/models/dashboard.py).

To check if cross-filtering is enabled for a dashboard in Superset v5.0.0, inspect the dashboard's metadata for the `cross_filters_enabled` flag. You can do this by exporting the dashboard (from the dashboard actions menu) and looking for `"cross_filters_enabled": true` in the exported JSON/YAML, or by using the Superset REST API to fetch the dashboard's metadata. how do i check if its enabled or not? i tried clicking on my pie chart and nothing happened, i checked my options menu on the chart and the scope for crossfiltering option doesnt appear. I tried setting it on the JSON metadata and it doesnt work @dosu

Here's how to enable and use cross-filtering in Superset v5.0.0:
1. Make sure you're using a chart type that supports cross-filtering. Supported types include Table, Pivot Table, World Map, and most ECharts visualizations (like Timeseries, Area, Pie, Sunburst). Some charts, such as Bubble, Histogram, and Sankey, do not support cross-filtering as of v5.0.0 and won't show the option in the UI [(source)](https://github.com/apache/superset/pull/30176).
2. You must have edit permissions on the dashboard. Cross-filtering controls only appear for users who can edit the dashboard [(source)](https://github.com/apache/superset/blob/829e4d92d91ceae4b43b1ed3b063ffe45377799c/superset-frontend/src/dashboard/components/SliceHeaderControls/index.tsx).

4. Open your dashboard in edit mode. Find a supported chart and click the vertical dots (rotated ellipsis) in the chart header to open the dropdown menu.
5. If the chart supports cross-filtering and you have edit permissions, you'll see a "Cross-filtering scoping" option in the dropdown. Click it to configure cross-filtering for that chart.
6. To use cross-filtering, interact with the chart (for example, click a bar or a pie slice). This will apply a filter to other charts on the dashboard that share compatible dimensions.
If you don't see the cross-filtering option, double-check the chart type, your dashboard permissions, and that the chart has at least one dimension. For dashboards using multiple datasets, make sure the fields you want to cross-filter on are present and compatible across the relevant charts [(source)](https://github.com/apache/superset/discussions/32615).
There is no global toggle or feature flag for cross-filtering in v5.0.0; it's entirely chart- and permission-driven. If you want to ensure cross-filtering is enabled at the dashboard level, you can check that the dashboard's metadata includes `"cross_filters_enabled": true`, but this is usually handled automatically [(source)](https://github.com/apache/superset/discussions/32615).

You don't need to restart Docker Compose or reset Superset after enabling cross-filtering. Once you update the dashboard metadata (for example, by saving changes in the dashboard UI or via API), the setting is applied automatically—just reload the dashboard in your browser to see it take effect.
