[Bug 4489] New: spamd: server hit by SIGCHLD

Summary: spamd: server hit by SIGCHLD
Product: Spamassassin

Some SPAM messages pass through my Spamassassin 3.0.4 without a checking because
spamd child dies. I see nothing in the message header and in the log I have this:

Alex --
could you paste log file lines recorded with "-D", or strace -f output?
just for the scanning of that one message which fails.

Message with no mark from Spamassassin (mbox format)
The spamd dies unexpectedly when scannig this message so spamass-milter did not
put a mark to the message header. This seems like a bug in the scan engine.

Working on it: Parameters: -m3 -D -max_conn_per_child 2
I notice that working withour my .cf files everything seems to work ok. I get
cf files regulary executing this script (putting cf files in
the /etc/mail/spamassassin directory:
#!/bin/sh
#
# getnewblacklist
#
URL="http://www.stearns.org/sa-blacklist"
LOC="/etc/mail/spamassassin"
OPT=" "
#FILES="random.current.cf sa-blacklist.current.cf sa-blacklist.current.uri.cf"
FILES="random.current.cf sa-blacklist.current.uri.cf"
logger -p local6.notice -t spamass "Spamassassin blacklist files check"
CWD=`pwd`
UPDATED=0
cd /etc/mail/spamassassin
for FILE in $FILES; do
wget -q $OPT $URL/$FILE $LOC/$FILE
if [ -e $LOC/$FILE.1 ]; then
cmp -s $LOC/$FILE $LOC/$FILE.1;
RETVAL=$?
if [ $RETVAL -eq 1 ]; then
# echo differ!
UPDATED=1
logger -p local6.notice -t spamass "$LOC/$FILE updated"
rm -f $LOC/$FILE.old
mv -f $LOC/$FILE $LOC/$FILE.old
mv -f $LOC/$FILE.1 $LOC/$FILE
else
# echo same!
logger -p local6.notice -t spamass "$LOC/$FILE not updated (same)"
rm -f $LOC/$FILE.1
fi
fi
done
# Return to exe dir
cd $CWD
if [ $UPDATED -eq 1 ]; then
logger -p local6.notice -t spamass "Reloading spamassassin"
/etc/init.d/spamassassin condrestart >/dev/null
fi
Please check if you can reproduce the problem running with these cf files.
If I get a positive I will grep the log and put it in this tread.
Alex.

I have the same problem. If I scan a discarted message on commandline
everything works fine.
I found the option '--max-conn-per-child' seems to solve (or at least prevent)
spamd to leave the message untouched.
Also after a test with 100+ spam mails at once and it seems that for every
spamd child (default conn-per-child 200) the last message scanned during the
SIGCHLD is discarded (and not spamd'd).
