[~maropu] I think you can just use the existing benchmark: [https://github.com/apache/spark/blob/master/sql/core/src/test/scala/org/apache/spark/sql/execution/datasources/parquet/ParquetReadBenchmark.scala]
Just make sure that you have a few GB of free memory. If the files are read from OS buffer cache, we will be able to see any performance differences better.
