release karaf-2.1.3?

Hey guys,

How do you feel about releasing karaf-2.1.3? We've fixed 6 bugs and also
included 2 minor improvements till now. 2 Bugs are still opened (with already
attached patches). I'm goging to give KARAF-315 a shot tomorrow and add one or
two minor improvements to the integration tests. Anything else you want to
include? Anything else we should do before releasing karaf-2.1.3?

WDYT?

kind regards,
andreas

Karaf-343: The issue doesn't mention if the upgrade is to take in a
needed bug fix or if this represents new functionality -- as a patch
release we should only be updating for fixes, not features (if new
features then full backward compatibility must be confirmed).

Other than Karaf-333 and Karaf-344 it appears we have all the issues
reported resolved for this patch release round, as such this is a good
time for everyone to start trying out their latest snapshot builds on
their target platforms (IBM Java, HPUX, Windows, etc).

Looking forward to starting the release process and getting a vote
started early in the new year :)

Cheers,
Jamie

Sounds good, so just KARAF-343 left in the todo list :)

I'll start preparing my environment for a run at a Karaf 2.1.3 release
candidate.

The problem for not including new features is to reduce the risk of
regressions and incompatbilities.
I'd think this can be deferred to 2.2.0.

Another issue appeared under the 2.1.x JIRA, KARAF-353. It's not
actually a bug, it's a feature request. The feature the user is
requesting doesn't sound like it would break backwards compatibility
however it does go against our general 'only bug fixes' stance on
patch branches. WDYT?

Re: release karaf-2.1.3?

Posted by "Jamie G." <ja...@gmail.com>.
We probably need to setup a roadmap page for Karaf where we can
indicate major changes such as JVM support.

Is this something we should tackle now or as part of the site updates?

Re: release karaf-2.1.3?

Posted by Guillaume Nodet <gn...@gmail.com>.
Actually the problems on fileinstall or on the 3.1.0 and 3.1.2, so we
don't really need to upgrade karaf 2.1.x to fileinstall 3.1.x (afaik,
we can keep fileinstall 3.0.2 which works fine).
I'll do some check on KARAF-327 and we should be good to go.

I haven't had any time to investigate the fileinstall issue, but the
fileinstall version has a few important problems that should really be
fixed.
I'll investigate on monday too.

Ok, I've fixed most of the issues assigned to karaf-2.1.x release by now. Things
missing:

KARAF-333: waiting for the paxurl release here (the paxurl release fails for me;
gnodet can you do this please?)

KARAF-343: seams to be a "wont fix"? WDYT

KARAF-344: I'll take a look at it later this day

--> Anything else to do? Otherwise I think we can fix a release date for 2.1 (when
ppl are comming back to work after new year's parties :))

WDYT?

kind regards,
andreas

Hi Achim,

yeah, agree. As it's a bug fix, it could be included in Karaf 2.1.3.

Hi,

I might have another one which could be interesting for 2.1.3
that would be KARAF-327

what do you think?

I've reopend both and set release target also to 2.1.3

Now we only have to fix them for 2.1.x :)

Here's my point of view:

KARAF-301: no interest to merge on 2.1.x. This issue concerns unit tests
and it's more important for the trunk.
KARAF-282: agree to merge on 2.1.x.
KARAF-299: agree to merge on 2.1.x

Re: release karaf-2.1.3?

Ok, I've checked all issues fixed for 2.2.0. I think three issues may be
interesting for backporting:

KARAF-301, KARAF-282, KARAF-299

All other issues are already backported or not relevant for 2.1.x.

While KARAF-301 is quite easy to backport, the other two does not apply
directly. KARAF-299 isn't that important (IMHO). KARAF-282 is not that easy to
port, but is important since this issue also exists for 2.1.3-SNAPSHOT...

WDYT?

kind regards,
andreas

Re: release karaf-2.1.3?

Posted by "Jamie G." <ja...@gmail.com>.
HI Andreas,

I have an entry in Karaf's Jira for performing the 2.1.3 release:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/KARAF-322

I'd be more than happy to start the process once we have the currently
reported issues resolved. In the mean time, we need to ensure that the
improvements do not cause any backward compatibility issues. Any kit
testing on the current 2.1.x snapshot builds would be highly
appreciated as well :)

Cheers,
Jamie
