server.xml context paths are unnecessary?

Hello,

Could someone please confirm/deny a simple assertion:

If one is installing one's web app under the $TOMCAT_HOME/webapps dir,
then there is no need to create context paths in server.xml.

Note: I am using a hand-built tomcat-apache.conf file so I don't use the
auto-generated one.
