Thanks, actually I found the answer on Google. Outlook cannot import or
export recurring events in vCal format. Must have been too difficult a
problem for MS to solve in all these years.

I believe Outlook's implementation of vCalendar, esp. in the area of
repeating events, is not standards compliant.  I proceeded by arranging
repeating calendar events to be mailed to non-outlook email addresses,
and examined what it was sending.  This was over 2 years ago, so 1) my
memory is fuzzy, and 2) things may have changed in the mean time.  I did
have a lot of trouble getting repeating events to show up in Outlook,
but in the end I was able to do it.
