[Bug 58234] auto-save feature

I think this is a good idea.

We now have a save before run option,
https://bz.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=61731, which should mitigate
some of the risk, but an auto save (separate from the usual save backups) would
be even better if we can make sure it doesn't interfere with the current
behaviour.
