Carrot2 Clustering with Field Collapsing

When I try to use carrot2 clustering in solr with grouping based on a field, I get a null pointer exception. However, the clustering query works fine without field grouping. For eg: the below query works fine:

/clustering?q=text:apple&rows=500&carrot.title=title

but, this query throws an error: /clustering?
q=text:tiger&rows=500&carrot.title=title&group=true&group.field=id&group.main=true


I would like to know if clustering is supported with field collapsing or I'm doing something incorrect? The stack trace for the error is given below:
