How can I help to get 2.0.1 out the door?

Just reflecting on Greg's desires to make 2.0.1 complete, what can I do
to hasten the process?

Basically the steps to release are as follows:

- Propose a release
- Perform any necessary QA to verify stability, etc.
- Generate and post a release candidate
- Call for a vote on the release

The first couple steps can be performed any time. Todd has historically done step 3, so if he is available he will be the most expedient. The last step involves the PMC members validating the release to ensure that it adheres to ASF release guidelines and generally goes pretty quickly.

I'd suggest sending an email to the dev list proposing the release and asking for assistance testing. Once it is collectively agreed that the release is stable enough, you can go on to the next steps.

Make sense?

I have been testing/using the latest head revs of 2.0.1 all along, so,
in general for me, 2.0.1 is great.

I don't think we are using the "clear()" method, so, no, I haven't run
into the things you've seen in PIVOT-694.

I'd rather be using a released version than my own locally-built
versions, so having 2.0.1 "out there" would be preferable, even if there
are smallish open issues that can be addressed in a later maintenance
release. The last issue I was really having a problem with has been
addressed, so for me, anytime we could release 2.0.1 would be good.

Hi Roger,
to complete 2.0.1 we have many open little things, and as you I'd like
to
close it before September ... I'll try to get more time during August.
Currently I've blocked all my not-primary tickets (update site, logos,
maven
archetypes, etc) to try to speedup development, but time is limited ....

If you have some time you are more than welcome :-) , you could take a
look
on any open issue for the 2.0.1, assign to you and work on it.
Of course on issues already assigned to others only ask to it before
take,
to avoid waste of time ...

Important:
you are working on one of biggest applications based on Pivot, so a
really
important part of your work (for us and for you) could be to test it
anytime
with latest pivot sources, to avoid regressions.
For example, things I've just discovered in PIVOT-694, have you never
found
those issues ? And after the (partial) fix ?

Thank you for the help.

Bye,
Sandro

I'm pretty much of the same opinion.

My feeling is that maintenance releases can be released at any time -
there's no need to wait for a particular feature set to be complete. You
could do a 2.0.2 release the next day if you wanted to. So I'd suggest
starting the release process sooner rather than later. But that's just
my opinion.
